  1. Aachen, or Aix-la-Chapelle, city has a
  2. population of 243,000, North
  3. Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.  It is an
  4. industrial centre producing mainly textiles
  5. and machinery.  Its mineral baths have been
  6. famous since roman times.  In 936-1531 the
  7. city was the coronation place of German
  8. kings.  In 1801 it was taken by France and in
  9. 1815 Prussia.  After WORLD_WAR_I Aachen was
  10. occupied by Allies, two thirds of it were
  11. destroyed during WORLD_WAR_II.
